LUIS MORONDO URRA

LUIS MORONDO (PUENTE LA REINA, 1909 - PAMPLONA, 1983)

He was a chorus master and a pedagogist. He studied in Pamplona with Bonifacio Iráizoz and in Castro Urdiales with Dúo Vital. He directed the choral society in Castro Urdiales and in Pamplona he collaborated with Remigio Múgica at the Orfeón pamplonés.

 

He founded and conducted, during its brief existence, the chamber orchestra in Pamplona and he was summoned to conduct Santa Cecilia orchestra from 1945 to 1960. In 1946 he founded Agrupación coral de cámara “to perform music from the XVth to XVIIth centuries”, although he later introduced every period in his programmes, especially the present time and music from the Basque region. We can count thousands of his concerts with this small choir throughout  Europe Africa and America.

He recorded a great number of albums and received innumerable prizes. He was awarded the Encomienda de Alfonso X el Sabio He wrote the arrangements for folklore pieces and the music for Misterio de San Guillén y Santa Felicia of Obanos.
